FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Moné
The following are provided to assist with any questions you have regarding Moné.
What causes excessive hair loss?
A variety of factors may cause excessive hair loss. These include, but are not limited to, genetics, diet, the usage of certain medications and/or bodybuilding supplements, and even the usage of some brand name hair loss treatments!
Genetics plays the largest role in hair loss. Men with balding ancestors are much more likely to suffer from hair loss, particularly at a young age. In fact, studies have shown that up to 90% of men suffer from some type of baldness, receding hairline, or a thinning of the hair (androgenetic alopecia). Hair loss is also common in people with diabetes.
In addition, hormonal problems may cause hair loss. An overactive or underactive thyroid gland can lead to loss of hair. An imbalance of male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, can also lead to hair loss.
Recovery from a major surgery may result in hair loss as well. Significant hair loss has been reported as soon as a few months following a surgery or illness. Fortunately, this type of hair loss is temporary, as it is related to stress.
Also, most women notice hair loss about 2-3 months after they have given birth. This type of hair loss is a hormone related. Eventually, hormones will return to normal and the normal cycle of hair growth and hair loss will begin again.

What is the normal cycle of hair loss and re-growth?
The normal cycle of hair loss and re-growth contains three phases: the growing phase, the resting phase, and the shedding phase. About 90% of your hair is experiencing growth, while the other 10% of your hair is in the resting phase.
The growing phase is responsible for producing new hair, as well as lengthening the new hair. Hair is produced at the root and growth is maintained through the blood vessels, which nourish the hair strands. The resting phase maintains the existing hair strands at its current hair length. During this phase, the hair follicles continue to receive nourishment, but also prepare for the shedding phase. In the shedding phase, old hair follicles are released so that new hair follicles can enter the growth phase.
-
Is hair loss normal?
Yes! A common misunderstanding is that hair loss is unnatural and abnormal. This is not true. Humans naturally shed anywhere from 50 to 100 hair strands during the shedding phase of the normal cycle of hair loss and re-growth. Unnatural or abnormal hair loss is defined as losing more than 150 hair strands.

What is DHT? What is its role in hair loss?
Men and women experience hair loss due to hormonal changes in their bodies. Specifically, it is the changes in the metabolism of the male hormone androgen that plays an important role in the normal cycle of hair loss and hair re-growth. Androgen is involved with the enzyme 5 alpha reductase which combines with the male hormone testosterone to produce DHT (Dihydrotestosterone). DHT is the natural metabolite of the human body and is the man reason why we experience hair loss.
DHT prevents essential proteins, vitamins, and minerals from providing the needed nourishments to sustain the healthy growth of hair. As a result, the growth phase of hair follicles are shortened, while the resting phase of hair follicles are elongated.
In addition, DHT is known to shrink and thin hair follicles, often leading to the eventual loss of hair.

Manufacturers of hair products which contain minoxidil offer absolutely no guarantee that the new hair loss will be replaced with hair growth. In addition, the doctor prescribed supplement known as Propecia® is not recommended for pregnant women or for hair-loss treatment in pre-menopausal women, as it may cause serious birth defects. What if I have naturally curly, thick, course hair?
Many of us are genetically born with a rich, curly grade of hair that upon growing causes irritation and pain to the scalp. It is this type of hair structure that is most common in African Americans. The structure of this type of hair can cause it to be more prone to breakage and dryness. There can be up to twice the amount of “cuticle” or outer layer, as well. When this type of hair is combed, the brush passes through the roots of the hair and causes soreness and pain. Even when this type of hair grows, some have reported that it causes pain in their scalp.
-
So how can Moné help?
Fortunately, Moné can aid in the alleviation of pain on your scalp caused by this type of hair. Its organic ingredients serve as a natural relaxer that may be able to straighten your hair and make it less painful and easier to comb your hair. It may also ease hair growth pains.
What Moné does is gradually allow the natural curl pattern to relax, become less painful and as a result, become somewhat straighter. Moné’s unique ingredients will allow your hair to have less tangles and less breakage. As a result, your hair will become softer, stronger, thicker, and healthier over time. In addition, Moné may ease scalpel pain, by promoting circulation, reducing inflammation, and providing moisture, so that your hair can reach its absolute full potential.
Keep in mind that applying Moné to this type of hair will not damage it at all. We mean it when we say our ingredients are completely all-natural, with absolutely no harmful chemicals used. So you will not experience damaged hair with our product.
